Sam Massingill, age 88, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017 in Ormond Beach, FL.
Sam was born February 7, 1929 in Gadsden, AL. He served in the United States Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant, was Past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Vancleave, and a member of Shriners.
He worked at Ingalls Shipyard for 19 years; his son, Larry, and his grandson, Shane, followed in his footsteps to work at Ingalls Shipyard. He served in the United States Air Force for 21 years; his grandsons, Ernie and Eric, followed in his footsteps serving in the United States Air Force.
Sam is preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. Massingill, and granddaughter, Renee S. Wetherington.
Survivors include his significant other of 14 years, Mollie Nigh; his children, Sheila Scott, Sherry Wintour, and Larry R. Massingill; his grandchildren, Ernesto Garcia, III, Shane Massingill, Eric M. Garcia, Chrissy Nieves, Rob Wintour; his great-grandchildren, Annistin Massingill, Faith Wetherington, Briley Wetherington, Amelia Massingill, Nolan R. Nieves, Giselle Garcia, and Vanessa Garcia.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with an 11:00 a.m. chapel service, on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradord-O'Keefe Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park. The family is hosting a reception at the home of Larry and Theresa Massingill, 3425 Marlin Cove, Gautier, MS 39553.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial donations be made to Shriners Hospital for Children. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mark Hopkins at the Masonic Lodge in Gulfport.
