SGT Charles Douglas “Chase” Hagler passed away peacefully in his home in Anchorage, Alaska on May 18, 2018. He was 31 years old.
Chase was born in Temple, Texas on November 7, 1986. He moved to Mississippi in 1991 and graduated with honors from Biloxi High School in 2005. He was incredibly intelligent, and loved to debate various facts, politics, and opinions. He had an enormous need for justice and always wanted to be a true hero. During his junior year in High School he joined the National Guard, and after high school, he joined the army, and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. In May of 2010, he served a tour in Afghanistan as a combat engineer and returned in February of 2011. While overseas, his vehicle took a direct hit from an IED, where Chase helped some of his military brothers reach safety. After his tour, he returned home to Alaska where he continued with his schooling, worked on aircraft, and extended his military career by gaining the rank of Sergeant in September of 2016. Upon death, he was an organ donor, and saved seven lives.
For his service overseas Chase received the following commendations and medals:
Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge and Basic Aviation Badge.
Posthumously he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (2nd Award) and Alaska Commendation Medal.
Chase was preceded in death by his grandparents, MSgt John H. Marine and Helen Marine, and Evelyn Mapes and Alvin Hagler Sr.
His survivors include his parents, Glenn and Debbie Hagler; his wife, Cara Perry Hagler; his daughter, Brogan Hagler; his stepchildren, Sage, Ivy, Ashlyn, and Caleb; his sister, Wendy Hagler (Bill) Heineck; and his brothers, Chris (Halie) Hagler, Beau (Blair) Hagler, and Timothy (Dakota) Hagler; as well as various nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 11:15 am. Friends may visit from 10:00 am until service time. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
