Sollie Harold Broadus was born May 16, 1931, in Howison, MS. He served in the US Army as a volunteer soldier, stationed in Korea. He also worked as a draftsman for Ingall’s Shipbuilding in Pascagoula and Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in Middletown, CT, during his younger years. Sollie was a retired store owner of “Crown View” at the hilltop on Hwy 49 in North Harrison County where he made numerous acquaintances over the years.
Sollie did not have children of his own but treated his companion, “Precious”, like he would a child. He spent his retirement drinking coffee, making bird and squirrel feeders, walking and jogging, listening to music and playing his guitar. He enjoyed being outdoors and creating gadgets with PVC pipe.
Sollie was definitely “one of a kind” and all who knew him knows exactly that he was that. He left all of us with memories that time can never take away. Sollie passed away Monday, March 29, 2021, in Collins, MS, lacking 47 days reaching 90 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his father, Biser William Broadus; his mother, Alice Loretta “Lora” Hall Broadus; brothers, Biser “Jay” Broadus, Charles “Bubba” Lindy Broadus, Luther “Douglas” Broadus; and his only sister, Lora “Blondell” Broadus Bond. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Wynon Bond of Waycross, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and
nephews.
The family extends their gratitude and appreciation to One Magnolia Place, Gulfport and the Veterans Administration along with Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Sollie.
