Suzanne Lee Strangi, 83, of Biloxi, died Saturday December 30, 2017 at her home. Mrs. Strangi, known as “Sue” to her friends and co-workers, was lovingly known as “Mama Sue” to her family. She was born in Shreveport, LA while her father was stationed at Barksdale AFB. Sue moved with her family to seven different Air Force Bases during her father’s tenure. They lived in TX, Long Island, NY, Washington DC, LA, the Panama Canal Zone, Europe and finally Keesler AFB in Biloxi when her father was promoted to Surgeon of the Technical Training Wing for the US Air Force.
Sue attended Biloxi High School, graduating in 1953. After attending Business College in New Orleans, she returned to Biloxi and was employed by WLOX as a news writer. During this time, she also enjoyed modeling, often for Dee Dee’s Dress Shop in Ocean Springs. Known for always being well dressed, she loved hosting parties with her friends, playing bridge and had a wonderful, dry sense of humor.
She was married in 1956 and raised her family of 4 children while still maintaining her glamour and social calendar. She was a member of many organizations including Les Masquees Carnival Association, Biloxi Yacht Club and a Lifetime Member of the Biloxi-Ocean Springs Junior Auxiliary.
In 1974, Sue began her career as the first social worker with Howard Memorial Hospital and remained the Director of Social Services for the next 40 years, retiring from Biloxi Regional Medical Center in 2013. Her co-workers have many wonderful stories of their interactions with “Miss Sue.”
Sue was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Suzanne “Sue Sue” Strangi; her parents, Bertha Cochran Lee and Brigadier General Robert E. Lee, M.D. USAF; her great-granddaughter, Megan Moon; her sister-in-law, Patricia Lee; and her best friend, Judy Rash.
She is survived by her children, Lee Ann Dubaz and her husband Gary, Mary Beth Broussard and her husband Julian and Stephen Strangi; her grandchildren, Victoria Moon Conway and her husband Joshua, Lloyd T Moon III, Sarah Broussard and Gia Broussard; and her great-grandchildren, Ronin, Jordan and Gary. She is also survived by her brother, Colonel Robert “Rob” E Lee, US Army retired and his family.
The family wishes to give special thanks to her caregiver, Addie Moffett and to Dr. Regina Mills.
