Teresa Guay

Teresa Guay passed away on Monday, September 13th, 2021 in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. She was 84. Teresa was born in Salmon, Idaho on June 22nd, 1937 to Jack and Slava Jakovac, Croatian immigrants who moved to the USA in 1909. They moved to Dillon, Montana when she was 7 and she spent her childhood on their cattle ranch on Blacktail Road south of town, with her older siblings Ann, Mary, Katherine and Tihomil. She attended Carroll College in Helena and became a Registered Nurse. While there, she met her husband, Richard Guay. They were happily married for over 40 years until he passed away in 2001. They moved to Las Vegas in 1963, to join Teresa’s sister Mary and her husband Dallas Owens. After working at various Las Vegas hospitals, Teresa began work at the Clark County Health Department, where she eventually managed the methadone clinic. She spent over 30 years helping to change the lives of the many who needed help. She was very proud of her work, and she was often recognized for a job she performed so well. She was loved by co-workers, many of whom became lifelong friends and by countless people she helped over the years. Teresa was an avid tennis player and fan, winning numerous awards during the several decades she played. She loved to drive, walk, and garden. She found endless hours of serenity in all three. She volunteered at several organizations, always doing what she could to provide help to those who needed it most. She was a devout Catholic who carried love and faith with her always. Throughout her life, Teresa was a pillar of strength for her family and friends. Her kindness, generosity and love will be severely missed by those who knew her. Teresa is survived by her sons, James and Daniel; daughter-in-law, Lori; grandchildren, Olivia Guay, Robert Castorina and Danielle Marquardt; and great-grand-children, Wyatt and Willow Bear and Jackson and Hannah Marquardt. Teresa is predeceased by her grandson Matthew, who passed away in 2012, as well as her parents and siblings. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on Porter Avenue in Ocean Springs is honored to serve the Guay family.
