Thomas Albert and Virginia Verlon Windham Turner

In their 65 years of marriage, Thomas Albert Turner and Virginia Verlon Windham Turner, both of Ozark, Alabama, humbly created a rich legacy. The young couple eloped in Troy, Alabama, on December 9, 1955, and returned to Ozark to begin their life-long journey together. Thomas served in the US Army for 3 years and the US Airforce for 27 years, earning the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. His steadfast, loving wife Virginia served right by his side as the military sent them from base to base before his retirement at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi in January 1985. In their years together, they raised a son and three daughters, who in turn gave them ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. The couple resided in their home in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, for more than 40 years, where they happily spent their retirement years golfing, sewing, growing gardens, planning family reunions, and tending both grand and great-grandchildren. Coming from a large family of patriots, Tom took great pride in his military career and instilled a deep love of country in all who knew him. Virginia’s greatest joy came from preparing home-cooked meals and filling their house with the laughter of her family. Their home was always open to family and friends, and neither of them ever knew a stranger. Both were firm in their Christian faith and were eager to share it. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Mattie Windham, one brother and two sisters. She is survived by four brothers and two sisters. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Luna Turner, his three sisters, and eleven brothers. The Turner legacy lives on through their children, grand and great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. After celebrating their 65th anniversary on December 9, 2020, the couple was cared for in their home by children and grandchildren. Virginia passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 82 on Tuesday, January 12, 2021. Tom held on to celebrate his 90th birthday both on Earth and in Heaven on Thursday, January 14, 2021. The two are survived by Richard, his children Stephanie (Ron), Jeffrey (Rachel), Ashley, and grandchildren Grant, Carson, and Jett; Rhonda (John), their sons Michael (Melanie) and Jared (Sheri), and grandchildren Kaeden, Caeleigh, Riley, Aidan, Jacob, Zaden, and Raelynn; Rheida, her son Aaron, and his daughters Kylee and Delilah; and Rachele (Todd) and her children Maegan (Marc), Thomas John, Michaela, and Dylan. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Bradford O’Keefe in Ocean Springs followed by a 7:00 pm service. Interment with the family only will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery on Monday, January 18, 2021. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the Turner family.
