Thomas J. Sliman, Sr.

Thomas J. Sliman, Sr., 80, of Biloxi, MS, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in Gulfport. Mr. Sliman was a native of Many, LA, and spent his formative years in Leesville, LA. A graduate of LSU, and member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, he was a US Army Veteran, and served as 1st Lieutenant. Mr. Sliman was a former independent insurance agent who maintained his certified insurance counsellor accreditation. He retired from The Peoples Bank in 2015 as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. Mr. Sliman served on the Biloxi Planning Commission, and as Treasurer of the Biloxi Chamber. He was a member of the Biloxi Yacht Club, Biloxi Rotary Club and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. Mr. Sliman was active in the Gulf Coast Carnival Association, serving as the Captain of Carnival in 1987, and was a member of Mithras. A longtime member of both Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and Nativity BVM Cathedral, he served as the Chairman of the Fatima Building Committee and attended daily mass. Mr. Sliman was a licensed pilot and an accomplished aviator. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Solomon Sliman; and his brother, George J Sliman. Mr. Sliman's survivors include his wife for 58 years, Mary "Putsy" Sliman; his daughter Jennifer (Jarod) Crane; his sons, Thomas Sliman Jr., Gregory (Tim) Sliman, M.D., Richard (Catherine) Sliman; his sister, Helen (Jerry) Conerly; his sister-in-law Olivia Sliman; his grandchildren, Spencer and Mary Catherine Sliman, and Madeline and Kennedy Crane; and many cherished nieces, nephews and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 12:00 PM. Friends may visit from 10:00 AM until mass time. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Saint Vincent de Paul Society or a charity of your choice. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
