Please pray for me and my family. On Friday, July 16, 2021, my beloved mother, Vernona Murphy went home to be with Jesus. She passed peacefully in her sleep, warm in a bed. She was 72 years old.
Vernona was a middle school teacher for 30 years and had a profound and lasting positive impact on all her students. My mother was the most dedicated, giving, self-sacrificing and loving mother I have ever known. She put her family first before anything or anyone else and she was a loyal friend to all who knew her. My mom had a free spirit that could never be tamed and Heaven is brighter and even more beautiful now that she is there. Vernona Murphy was an angel in the shape of my mom, and I will forever treasure her in my heart. Until we meet again Momma.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Leiterman; brother, Max Williams, Sr., her granddaughter, Savannah, along with many Murphy cousins.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 22, 2021, at First United Methodist Church, 208 Pine Street, Long Beach, MS, at 6:00 p.m.
Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport, is honored to serve the Murphy family.
