Violette Glidewell, age 89, of Gulfport, Mississippi passed away August 5, 2021.
Violette was born in Lexington, Missouri on March 23, 1932. As a child her family moved to California where she grew up making lifelong friends and fond memories. She later married a sailor from Evergreen, Alabama and moved to the Mississippi coast and raised her family. Ms. Violette, as she was known by many families, loved caring for and teaching young children. In the 1970’s, she worked at the naval base daycare center and then went on to open her own daycare in Gulfport.
Violette was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ruth Psihas of Long Beach, California; her brother, Jimmie Psihas; her husband, Alton (Bill) Glidewell; and her son, Danny Glidewell and his wife Karen.
She is survived by her sister, Elene McClintic of Seal Beach, California; her son, George W. Caldwell and his wife Grace Caldwell and their children: Shawne Fore, Carmen Akins, George J. Caldwell and his children: Riley, Danielle, and George D.; her son Danny’s children: son, Jevon Glidewell and his children: Blake and Arwen; Danny’s son Jamon Glidewell and his children: Haven and Kayla Owen. Violette is also survived by her daughter, JoAnn Glidewell and her son Charles.
A visitation and funeral service will be held for family only, due to covid, at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport, MS followed by interment at Biloxi National Cemetery. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is honored to serve the Glidewell family.
