Walter Robert Storie, Jr., age 87, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away at his home on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021. Brother Bob was born June 13, 1934 in Grenada, MS. Walter graduated from Ocean Springs High School – 1952. He continued his education with the following institutions William Carey College - Bachelor of Education; University of Southern Mississippi - Master of Education; Post Graduate work at University of Southern Mississippi; Chaplaincy Certification via Southern Baptist Home Mission Board. Brother Bob was Pastor at Emmanuel Baptist Church - Ocean Springs, MS; Helena Baptist Church – Helena, MS; Southside Baptist Church - Gautier, MS. Missionary - State Mission Board, MS. Brother Bob also worked at Jackson County School District, Pascagoula School District – Teacher, Principal. Escatawpa Elementary, Arlington Heights Elementary, South Elementary, St. Martin East Elementary, Beach Elementary, Singing River Elementary. Truckers and Travelers Ministry; The Seamen Center. Jackson County Baptist Association; Chaplain for Singing River Hospital and Ocean Springs Hospital. He served as a speaker for the Home Mission Board across the Southeast United States. Brother Bob enjoyed Flounder fishing, gardening, cooking and baking, candy making, Master Carpenter, bird watching, singer. Brother Bob’s main interest was serving others. He had a servant’s heart, full of compassion and love for people. He started the Trucker’s Ministry in Jackson County, MS. He came home many nights barefoot and without a coat because he had given them away to the homeless, thus becoming known as the “Barefoot Missionary”. As an interim pastor, he served multiple Baptist churches/communities. For over 18 years, he shared Christ with Seafarers from across the world at the Seaman Center at the Port of Pascagoula. He hosted many seafood dinners and cookouts. The Lord used him in so many ways. He was an extremely hard worker, never getting much sleep! He was preceded in death by his parents; Rev. Walter Robert Storie, Sr. and Ollie Hirtzler Storie; and his siblings, Kenneth Lee Storie and Ivye Lou Storie Reid. Brother Bob is survived by his wife, Maudie Lee Miller Storie of Ocean Springs, MS; his children, Virginia Lee Wada (Dean) of Bluff City, TN, Mary Kathleen “Kathy” Dier (Keith) of Vancleave, MS, and Walter Ashley Storie (Maureen) of Houston, TX; his grandchildren; Ethan Trey Dier (Claire) and Elias Conner Dier, both of Ocean Springs, MS, Hannah Lee Brazas (Jonathan) of Chesapeake, VA and Darcie Carina Sorsby (Skyler) of Philadelphia, PA, Samuel Carson Storie, Robert Hogan Storie and William Lott Storie, all of Houston, TX; his sister, Dorothy Kittinger (Gene) of Sweeny, TX; and his pet, Ellie The family requests memorial donations be made to International Seafarer’s Center, P.O. Box 1726, Pascagoula, MS 39568. Visitation will be Monday, September 13, 2021 at 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the First Baptist Church, Ocean Springs, Mississippi, where the funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at the Evergreen Cemetery in Ocean Springs, MS Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Ocean Springs, is honored to serve the Storie family.
