William David Mobbs, 69, Gulfport Mississippi passed away on January 10, 2019. He was born April 24, 1949 in Euclid Ohio to Joseph and Barbara Mobbs. A memorial service will be held on January 29, 2019, 6 pm and the family will receive visitors from 5-6pm at Grayson United Methodist Church 555 Grayson Parkway, Grayson GA 30017 (Phone: 770-963-2944)
He enlisted in the United States Army on April 27, 1968. He spent his time in the army as a Combat Engineer and Chemical Operations Specialist. He was honorably discharged and retired after serving 20 years. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Expert Rifle Badge on the M-16, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry M60 Device, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry Unit Citation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal Korea, Army Service Ribbon , 3 Overseas Service Ribbons, Air Assault Badge, Valorous Unit Award, 3 Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbons, 6 Good Conduct Awards, 1st Oak Leaf Cluster Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and 4th Oak Leaf Cluster. He served in Vietnam, Germany, and Korea several times.
After retirement, he worked for Ford as a service writer until he eventually retired in 2011. He lived with his daughter after retirement until he made his final move to the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport Mississippi in 2015. He enjoyed the camaraderie and friendship of his fellow retired service men and women at the AFRH. He enjoyed reading, movies, eating a delicious meal, visiting with family, football, hacking at golf, game shows on TV, going to the casino, a fine automobile, and being with his friends. In his last days, nothing brought him more joy than pictures, videos and spending time with his family, especially his only granddaughter 1-year-old Grace.
Bill passed away surrounded by his children at his home, the Armed Forces Retirement Home Valor Hall, after a year and a half long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was loved and treated like a king by the staff and fellow residents at the AFRH.
He attained the age of 69 years, 8 months and 16 days. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Joseph and Barbara Mobbs. He is survived by his daughter Susan Mobbs Kliesen and son-in-law Scott, his son Joseph David Mobbs and daughter-in-law Lacey and his stepson Morgan Adams; his grandchildren Wade, Mark, Adam, and Grace; his siblings Judy Loparo, Peggy Manning, Janis Mobbs, David Mobbs, brother-in-law Bill Loparo; nieces Robin Loparo, Heather Manning, and Holly Weegar; great-nieces Maygan Loparo and Jessica Meyer and many extended relatives. He is also survived by many friends especially his buddies from the smoke shack at the AFRH.
