Adelaide Josephine Taranto Chinn, 97 of D’Iberville, MS passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 in D’Iberville.
Born on the Fourth of July, 1928, in Biloxi, Mississippi, Adelaide Chinn lived a full and joyous life as a proud lifelong resident of her beloved hometown.
She grew up on Magnolia Street in downtown Biloxi and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. A devout Catholic, Adelaide remained a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church throughout her life.
Adelaide was deeply in touch with her Italian family heritage and was the longstanding matriarch of the Taranto family. She loved to cook and kept the cherished tradition of Sunday dinners of spaghetti and meatballs, a tradition that continued for decades and bonded the entire family.
In the 1990s, the family began a new tradition with the founding of The Cousins Club, created to keep the next generation of Tarantos close. From the start, Adelaide was a guiding presence — the matriarch whose joy and devotion made the monthly gatherings special. Especially close to her nieces, she shared in their laughter and love, helping shape The Cousins Club into the family tradition it is today.
Adelaide had a true love for life and approached the world with childlike wonder and excitement. She had a deep affection for Mardi Gras, the Saints, Fourth of July and any opportunity to enjoy being with family and friends. Always the life of the party, her laughter, warmth, and lively spirit brightened every room she entered.
Above all, Adelaide’s family was the center of her heart. She loved them dearly and cherished every moment with them. Her legacy of joy, faith, heritage, resilience, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her eight siblings; her beloved husband, Richard Chinn; her daughter, Margie Olivia Glouner; her son, Richard “Rocky” Joseph Chinn; and her grandson, Richard Joseph “Joey” Chinn.
Adelaide is survived by her children, Cathy Callegari (Merrick), Carolyn Ann Desporte (Anthony), and Daniel Joseph Chinn; her son-in-law, Jeffrey Glouner; her grandchildren, Cindy Jo Callegari Calvit, Merrick “Rikki” Callegari, Matthew Callegari, Ryan Glouner, Beau Glouner, Savannah Desporte, Breanna Desporte, and Jamie Desporte; and eleven great-grandchildren.
