Alton Joseph Poncet, Jr.

Alton J. Poncet, Jr., 72, of Ocean Springs, MS, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on March 4, 2016. Al is survived by his wife, Kathryn of 52 years and sons Robert, James and his wife Mindy, and Al III and his wife Katy. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Lauren and Ashley Poncet of Diamondhead MS and Audrey and Katie Poncet of Ocean Springs MS. He also enjoyed the love of his great-granddaughter, Paris Poncet. His sisters are Jo Ann Tarantino of Slidell LA and Lillian Merry of Harvey LA. Al was preceded in death by his father, Alton J Poncet Sr., and his mother, Esther S. Poncet, of Covington LA. Al was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to all. Al loved our Nation and served in the Air Force for 20 years deploying twice to Vietnam. He enjoyed the science of competitive shooting winning marksmanship awards while in the Air Force. He also enjoyed electronics and was constantly fixing something for someone. Al was always there to help friends with whatever they needed. Al was a member of the Ocean Springs Church of Christ and the Disabled American Veterans. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home located at 911 Porter Avenue in Ocean Springs MS on Tuesday, March 8. Funeral services will immediately follow at the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Al will be laid to rest at Biloxi National Cemetery at 12:30 PM with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be sent to the Ocean Springs Church of Christ Youth Ministry at PO Box 34, Ocean Springs, MS 39566 or to the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Gulf Coast Chapter at PO Box 3763, Gulfport, MS 39505 to be used to provide needy veterans with wheel chair assistance.
