Alton Raymond LeFebvre

September 18, 1927 — November 6, 2023

Col. Alton R. LeFebvre, (US Army Retired), age 96, of Gulfport, MS passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, in Gulfport.

Alton was born in King’s Daughters Hospital on September 18, 1927, and lived his early years in MS City.  He attended MS City Elementary School, (the home of Lynn Meadows Discovery Center), and then attended Gulfport High School.  While in high school, he got a job at O’Neal Electric Company to earn spending money.  Three days after he graduated high school, he enlisted in the US Navy. He attended boot camp in San Diego, CA and service school in the Great Lakes.  Since he had worked at an electric company, he chose to be an electrician’s mate.  After completing the service school, he was assigned aboard an aircraft carrier, the USS Boxer (CV-21).  He served aboard the carrier until his 21st birthday at which time he was discharged from the Navy.  His childhood dream of going to college became a reality when the GI bill was implemented.  He attended MS Southern College (now USM).  After finishing college, he obtained employment at Keesler Air Force Base as an electronic instructor.  He also served in the US Army Reserve and retired as a colonel.

Alton enjoyed gardening and working in his greenhouse.  He was a former president of the Camellia Society, and he judged flower shows and taught people to graft camellias.  He was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Michael Memorial Baptist Church.  He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed making fishing rods and writing pens.  His other hobbies included crossword puzzles, playing solitaire and sudoku.

Alton was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Maye Raupp and a brother, Raymond.  Survivors include two sons, Steve Wright (Nancy) and Charles Wright; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  Alton loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Summerfield Senior Living of Gulfport.

Visitation will be Friday, November 10, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, O’Neal Road, Gulfport.  A graveside service with honors by the US Army will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, MS.
