Amelia J. Lechner Barhonovich

Amelia J. Lechner Barhonovich passed away peacefully on August 17, 2021 at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on March 24, 1932 and was a lifelong resident of “Point Cadet”. Her life was devoted to God, the Blessed Mother Mary, her loving husband Frankie, and her family. She worked many hours at her husband Frankie’s side at Progress Printing Company. As a devoted member of St. Michael Catholic Church, she served God and her parish community in many capacities and was a member of the Legion of Mary. She was also a member of the Slavonian Ladies Auxiliary. Amelia volunteered countless hours in support of our Catholic schools. Amelia’s dedication and unconditional love for her entire family was known by all. They were the pride and joy of her life. She is preceded in death by her most precious gift from God, her loving husband of 64 years, Frank P. Barhonovich, Jr.; her parents, Henry G. and Isabell (Sumrall) Lechner; father-in-law, Frank, and mother-in-law Mira (Kovacevich) Barhonovich; infant daughter, Teresa Marie Barhonovich; infant son, Frank P. Barhonovich; daughter, Victoria “Vicki” Marie Barhonovich; son, Frank P. Barhonovich III; great-grandson, Kash Michael Barhonovich; brothers, George, Edward, Gregory “Jr” (Mary), and John Lechner; brothers-in law, Anthony “Tony” (Ruth), John “Jinx” (Gladys), and Peter Matre Barhonovich; sisters-in-law, Marie “Mamie” (Mutt) Jurich, and Antonia “Nina” Barhonovich; several nieces and nephews; and her dearest friend Margie Trone. Amelia is survived by her daughters Jeanne Marie Barhonovich-Baker and Kathy Barhonovich Lang; son Mario Barhonovich (Michelle); grandchildren Carolyn Senseney Fisher (Ryan), Richard Barhonovich, Jacqueline Baker Lewis (Zach), Jenna Marie Baker, Jane-Claire Baker Davison (Dwight), JJ Lang (Kristen), Jonathan Lang (Kacee), Elizabeth Barhonovich, Hannah Barhonovich Wilborn (Zack), Aaron Barhonovich (Justina); great-grandchildren Madison, Abigail, and Tanner Fisher, Richard, Brady, and Victoria Barhonovich, Cade and Eliza Lewis, Preston Davison, Ava and Lucy Lang, Leah, Carson, and Madelyn Wilborn, and Paislee Barhonovich; sisters-in-law, Gloria Lechner, Dolores Lechner, and Annette Barhonovich; son-in-law, Jay Lang; daughter-in-law, Beth Barhonovich,; granddaughter-in-law, Sarah Barhonovich; several loving nieces, nephews, friends, and her dear friend Dolores Sonnier. The family would like to thank Saad Hospice nurses and staff, especially owner Dorothy Saad-Dunning, Gloria, Monique, and Sarah; Dr. Paul Pavlov and Nurse Twy; nurses and staff of Bay Cove Assisted Living, especially Barbara Moore; Greenbriar Nursing Center; Dr. Matt Kuluz, Fr. Greg Barras, Fr. Paddy Mockler, Msgr. Dominick Fullam, and our family and friends for their loving care and support. A special thank you to Jeff O’Keefe and the caring staff of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church or St. Vincent DePaul both located at 177 First Street, Biloxi, MS 39530. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 177 First Street, Biloxi. Friends and family may begin visiting at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery. The family requests that masks be worn. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue in Biloxi is honored to serve the family of Amelia J. Lechner Barhonovich.
