Beryl Frances Barq Lewis passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2026, with her children at her side.
She was born on May 13, 1939, in Pascagoula, MS. Beryl was a lifelong resident of Biloxi, a 1957 graduate of Sacred Heart Girls Catholic Academy, and a 1959 graduate of Gulf Park College.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 62 years, John Joseph Lewis, Sr.; her parents, Edward and Lillian (King) Barq, Jr.; granddaughter, Jessica Marie Fletcher; and two brothers and two sisters.
Beryl married her sweetheart, John, on June 27, 1959, in Nativity Cathedral and subsequently fulfilled her lifelong dream of being a mother.
She was a loving mother and grandmother to daughter, Lisa (Stephen) Fletcher; son, John Joseph (Allison Baronich) Lewis, Jr.; granddaughters, Sarah Christine Fletcher, Heather Elizabeth Fletcher (Jake) LeBlanc, Gabrielle Nicole Lewis (Jared) Harvey, and Anna Terese Lewis (Trevor) Norris; grandsons, John Joseph (Kristen) Lewis, III, and Christian Barq Lewis; and great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Mela Lewis, Noah and Natalie Norris, and Johnni Harvey, and several grand and great-granddogs.
Beryl was a majorette and played saxophone in the Sacred Heart Marching Band. After graduating from Sacred Heart, she was selected as the first reigning Cameila Queen in 1957. She was involved in the Biloxi Jayceettes for several years after getting married, during John’s time with the Biloxi Jaycees. Beryl loved mardi gras and was honored to be Queen of Les Masques for the 1977 Golden Anniversary Ball. She was a supporter of the Biloxi Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program from 1975-1978. Beryl and John were active members of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and were Eucharistic Ministers. She was also a field angel for Caritas of Birmingham. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your favorite charity.
Services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, with visitation from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by The Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Private interment will follow at the Biloxi City Cemetery.
