Bettye Lee Lamey passed away peacefully at her home on January 23, 2026, with her devoted sister by her side.
She was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, in 1930 to Ray and Lillie Terry. After graduating from high school, Bettye moved with her family to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she modeled and worked in women’s fashion. The family later settled in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, where her parents opened Ray’s BBQ Restaurant. Bettye married Phillip “Pete” Lamey of Latimer and made her home there until moving to Mobile in 2008.
Bettye was a devoted and loving mother to her four children—Phil, Dave, Becky, and Matt—and shared a special, motherly bond with her granddaughter, Logan. Her love for her family was deep, fierce, and unwavering.
Bettye’s nurturing spirit reached far beyond her immediate family. Throughout her life, she opened her home and her heart to relatives in need, caring for them during their most difficult times. Even in the face of tragedy, Bettye remained resilient, choosing love again and again.
For many years, Bettye and her husband owned and operated The Outpost gun store in D’Iberville. Customers quickly became friends—many of them lifelong. Bettye was also an excellent cook, and her home was a gathering place for both new and old friends who regularly joined the family for her much-loved Sunday country dinners.
A lifelong lover of fashion, Bettye owned Logan’s Reruns, a vintage clothing and accessories shop. She was also a talented jewelry maker and generously gave most of her creations away to others.
Bettye was known for her striking beauty, both inside and out, and for her clever sense of humor. She was kind, loyal, empathetic, generous, creative, and strong. She will be deeply and immeasurably missed.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, Ray Albert Terry and Lillian Terry Williams; her husband, Phillip “Pete” E. Lamey; her beloved son and granddaughter, Dave Lamey and Logan Lamey Elizalde; and her siblings, Billy Ray Terry, Mary Damiano, and Rodney Terry.
She is survived by her children, Phil Lamey (Elaine), Rebecca Thornton Malus (Earl), and Matt Lamey (Temple); her sister, Vicki Terry Elkins; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 30, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Biloxi on Howard Avenue, followed by a service from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. A funeral procession will follow for burial at The Lamey Family Cemetery on Lamey Bridge Road.
