Bonnie Pha Stewart

Bonnie Pha Stewart, 92, of Gulfport, Mississippi, and a longtime resident of Biloxi, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, in Gulfport.

Bonnie was born on June 30, 1934, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Nicholas and Sammie Mozell Fury. She earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, followed by her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing from The University of Southern Mississippi.

Bonnie dedicated her life to nursing, working as a Registered Nurse at Howard Memorial, Biloxi Regional Medical Center, and the Biloxi VA Medical Center. She also served as a nursing instructor and later continued her career in home health nursing. Throughout her career, she held numerous positions, including House Supervisor and ICU Supervisor. She received many certifications and honors, including Nurse of the Year and Research Nurse of the Year multiple times from the Mississippi Nurses Association, as well as the Nursing Excellence Award from Biloxi Regional Medical Center. She also co-authored several critical care books and had numerous articles published in magazines.

Bonnie was very active in her local church and enjoyed attending the Lyman Senior Center. In her free time, she loved gardening, reading, listening to hymns, and sitting on her front porch in her rocking chair. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and always had her biggest smile when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Sammie Fury; her beloved husband, Wayne Edward Stewart; her children, Barry Wayne Stewart, Ginger Kay Camp, and Walter Valentine Stewart; her siblings, Charles Spence Fury and Thomas Phillip Fury, Sr; and by her great granddaughter, Jillian Nichole Camp.

Bonnie is survived by her children, Deborah Pha Hazen (Matthew) and Bonnie Sue Kelley (Bill); 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Nicholas Fury (Lynn).

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Avenue, with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at D'Iberville Memorial Park, 11041 Gorenflo Road, D'Iberville, MS 39540.
