Dr. Bruce W. Fisher, age 95, of Gulfport formally Vancleave, MS passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
Bruce was born on September 20, 1927 in Jackson, MS to parents Fred Fisher and Elizabeth Baygents. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Wiltsie DD-716 in the Pacific. While stationed in San Francisco, CA, he met and married his wife of 70 ½ years, Martha Sue Hillman. While still in San Francisco, he felt the call of the Lord to serve him and surrendered to the ministry.
Following a return to Mississippi, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mississippi College, a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Seminary College in Louisville, KY, a Master of Arts from University of Southern Mississippi and a Doctor of Education from Nova University Florida.
He served as Pastor and interim pastor at numerous churches across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He retired from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Gautier campus as the Director of Admissions. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Gulfport. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, fishing, and hunting.
He is preceded in death by his wife Sue Fisher; son, Benjamin Fisher; his parents; and three brothers.
He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Fisher and Rachel Fisher, both of Gulfport; two grandsons, Arron Hood of Gulfport, and Joshua Fisher of Biloxi; and one great grandson, Jaiden Redding of Gautier.
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at 11am. Friends may visit one hour prior. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park.
