Byron Carl Reed, age 61, of Biloxi, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Luther Carl Reed and Janice Borgman Reed of Soccoro, NM. Byron was born in Farmington, NM, but his family moved to Soccoro, NM shortly afterward. He received his B.A. in Petroleum Engineering from New Mexico Tech in Soccoro in 1985 and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force engineering conversion program. After graduating from Officer Training School at Lackland AFB, Texas and being commissioned as 2 Lt. he was sent to Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA to get his B.S. in Electrical Engineering. While there he met his future wife Vicky one night at JJs. They were married 6 weeks later and remained partners and best friends until his death.

After graduating from La. Tech, he was stationed at Mather AFB, CA as Base Civil Engineer and oversaw the Prime BEEF emergency engineering deployment team. After meeting his commission requirements he was honorably discharged and was hired by the VA in Fayetteville, AR in 1990 as a civilian employee. He heard of the need for engineers at the Biloxi VA after Hurricane Katrina and transferred there in 2007. He retired from the VA in 2016.

The family would like to thank Dr. Allison Wall, Brittney Hicks, NP, and all of the wonderful, amazing staff at Memorial's oncology offices at the Merit and Cedar Lake locations. He loved all of you so much and felt your love during his care in chemo. We would also like to thank all the healthcare staff at Memorial during his final stay in the ER and in the hospital. Everyone there who cared for him in any way, from medical care, to serving meals, to checking on him, to the cleaning staff were so great. He felt truly cared for there.

According to his wishes he will be cremated and his remains scattered in the Gulf at a later date. Also according to his wishes there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Memorial Hospital Foundation Oncology Fund, www.memorialhospitalfoundation.com; or St. Peter's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 1909 15th St, Gulfport, MS 39501; or any other charity of your choice.
