Carmen Veronica Gonsoulin, age 65, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016. Carmen was the loving wife of Norman Jerome Gonsoulin. Their love story was a dance. They lived their lives in step with one another. They brought out the best in each other, and their commitment to one another was effortless.
Born on the island of Malta, she was the daughter of Paul and Mary Spiteri. This is where she met her husband Norman. After residing in Malta for 10 years, Carmen and Norman moved to the United States with their daughter Melanie. A sense of duty to family brought them home to Biloxi. There, they ran Esse’s Grocery on Howard Avenue.
Carmen lovingly shared her many gifts. Carmen’s hobby was sewing and she dedicated many years doing what she loved best to the Beau Rivage as a primary seamstress. Gentle care and attention to detail are her legacy. She delighted in beauty and precision in all aspects of her life. Carmen also enjoyed cooking and working diligently in her yard. Most of all, Carmen enjoyed spending time with her two granddaughters, Delanie and Darcy. Carmen also attended St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
She was our devoted Nana. Nana’s girls were the center of her world. She delighted in being a part of their lives. Nana showered them with love. We’ll miss all of our special times of togetherness, yet firmly believe that heaven gained a beautiful dancer and will now have the finest robes from one of the finest seamstresses.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Gonsoulin.
Carmen is survived by her daughter, Melanie Howell of Biloxi; her son-in-law, Derick Howell of Biloxi; her granddaughters, Delanie Howell of Ocean Springs and Darcy Howell of Biloxi; her sister, Doreen Amato of Malta; and her brother, Joe Spiteri of Malta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 11:00 am. Friends may visit from 10:00 am until mass time. Interment will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery.
The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
