It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Carolyn “Granny” Elaine Simmons. Born September 7, 1944, she lived in Gulfport most of her life. There she raised three children and taught them the power of faith and love. Carolyn was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Gulfport, and her Sunday school class and church family there held a special place in her heart.
After some peer pressure from her family, Carolyn moved to Florence in her final year to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Eventually, Granny was happy to be living there, and that final year will always be fondly remembered.
Surrounded by love, Carolyn passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Simmons, Jr.; her parents, Pirvy and Marvalyn Nix; and her son-in-law, Jerry Hill Jr.
She is survived by her children, Wendi Hill, Brent Craig (Tammy), and Kyle Simmons; her grandchildren, Kara White (CT), Kalyn Hill, and Shelby Craig; and her great-grandchildren, Carter and Adalyn White (named Adalyn ELAYNE White after her Granny).
A visitation will be held at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, 1726 15th Street, Gulfport, on Monday, February 12, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., followed by a service to celebrate her life at 1:00 p.m. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is honored to serve the Simmons family.
