Catherine E. Swanson

Mrs. Catherine E. Swanson, age 80, of Ocean Springs, MS, passed away Friday, December 8, 2017, at home, peacefully, with her family by her side. Katie was born on February 22, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the third daughter of James and Geneva Carr. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic church and the Ladies Auxiliary, Knights of Columbus. She was a member and past president of the Hibernia Marching Society and the Shamrock Club. Katie was also the past president of the Ocean Springs Garden Club. Katie and Ken were married for 62 years, traveling and moving a lot, being that Ken spent 47 years in the military. After his retirement, they spent the last 34 years in Ocean Springs, where she spent her time enjoying family and friends. Katie was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She brought laughter and love to each and everyone…known to all as MeMaw. She will be greatly missed but now is dancing in Heaven with her husband Ken and son, Kenny. Katie was preceded in death by her oldest son, Kenneth, husband, Ken Swanson, parents, James and Geneva Carr, and sister, Patty Carr Haltom. Survivors include daughter, Therese; sons, James (Jennifer) and Roy (Nancy); grandkids, Katie, Taryn, Chance, April, Samantha, Kenny, Brady, Austin, Lucas, Cindel, Jason, Kayla and Alysa; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Jensen, Jessica and Elaina; two sisters, Barbara and Margie Logan and brother, James Carr. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 17, from 5pm until 7pm, at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Monday, December 18, there will be an 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, where friends may visit one hour prior. Interment will follow at 12:30pm at Biloxi National Cemetery.
