Cecile “Celia” Cowan Faulk was born in Mobile, Alabama on January 4, 1937, to Mildred Cowan and Thomas Shepard Cowan. She died at her home in Gulfport on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
Celia grew up in Mobile and attended Visitation Academy. She graduated from Bishop Toolen High School and the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. After graduation Celia worked at Merrill Lynch until she married Everett Ward Faulk, Jr. and moved to Atlanta. Banking then took them to New Orleans, where she was an active member of the Junior League of New Orleans, and ultimately to Gulfport, Mississippi. There Celia would ride her moped to WLOX where she worked for more than twenty-five years and made many dear friends as she did wherever she was. A devoted Roman Catholic, she regularly attended the Adoration Chapel at St. James. Celia served with the Bereavement Ministry and was the members chair for the St. James Altar Society. She took joy in her many friends and “pew buddies” at daily mass and in her Prayer Group and Rosary Groups.
Celia was preceded in death by her husband, Ward; her parents; and her grandmother, Cecile Starke, who helped raise her after her father died when she was young.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn “Lyn” Roberts and her husband Doug; her sons, E. Ward Faulk III and his wife Marian Reagan Faulk and John G. Faulk and his wife Tracy Acosta Faulk; her grandchildren, Cecile Roberts, Jackson Faulk and Shepard Faulk; her sister, Mildred “Millie” Hollinger; her brother, Thomas “Tom” Cowan; and nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation at St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026, with a memorial mass to follow at noon. On Friday, March 27, at 11:00 a.m., there will be a graveside service at Pinecrest Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Vincent de Paul Society of St. James, 366 Cowan Road, Gulfport, MS, 39507, or the charity of your choice.
