Charles L. Brueck, Jr, age 92, of Gulfport died Friday, July 27, 2018. He was born in Gloster, MS and had been a resident of Gulfport since 1969, having previously lived in Forest, Jackson, McComb and Brookhaven. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Gulfport where he was an Elder Emeritus and had taught Sunday School for many years. He was a former member of the Gulfport Rotary Club and Gulfport Yacht Club.
Mr. Brueck was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Johnnye Lowe Brueck; his daughter, Jayne Brueck Joyce, his parents, Charles L. Brueck, Sr. and Hazel Caulfield Brueck; and two sisters, Jean Brueck Cates and Betty Brueck White. He is survived by two daughters, Lynne Brueck Malone of Baltimore, Maryland, Kay Brueck Moore and her husband, Bill of Pascagoula; a son, Barry Brueck of Gulfport; seven grandchildren, Cole Terrell (Devin), Emily Adkins (Tyler), Mollie Moore, Brett Malone, Ryan Malone, Courtney Pittman (Brandon), and Matthew Joyce; and five great grandchildren Stratton Terrell, Collin Terrell, Logan Malone, Delainey Pittman, and Annie Riley Adkins.
Mr. Brueck was a graduate of Forest MS high school and attended the University of Alabama before entering the United States Marine Corps during World War II where he served in some of the island invasions of the Pacific operations and the early occupation of Japan. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and was employed for almost 30 years with United Gas Corporation, later Entex, transferring to the Coast as District Manager in 1969. He then worked with Coast Federal Savings and Loan, later Magnolia Federal Savings and Loan in Gulfport, retiring in 1989. During retirement he helped found Covenant Christian School, and served as its director until the school closed in 2005.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 12 noon at First Presbyterian Church, Gulfport where friends may visit one hour before the service at 11:00 a.m. The family prefers memorials to French Camp Academy, One Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39745.
