C.J. "Jimmy" Hughes

C.J. "Jimmy” Hughes also affectionately known as "Poppy" passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side on Tuesday, February 16, 2016. Jimmy was born September 29, 1924 in Alabama, to the late Ann Buntyn and Clarence J. Hughes Sr. Jimmy was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He retired from Civil Service employment where he work in the Corrosion Control Department on aircrafts at Keesler Air Force Base. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Mildred "Midge", "Millie", “Mitzi” or “Ms. Winnie” Hughes; his son, Johnny; and sister, Rosemary Gollott. He is survived by his daughter, Marcia (Tommy) Toncrey; sisters, Anna Jo Wentzell, Mary Margaret (Henry) Lawrence and Maryann Vanlandingham; brother, John (Gay) Rudolf; two grandchildren, Kacee (Bubba) Bellais and Garrick Toncrey; six great grandchildren, Koby, Ayden and Makayla Toncrey and Christian, Caitlyn and Lainie Bellais; and countless nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. Family and friends may visit one hour prior. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park.
