It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Corey Havelin, who departed this life on May 8, 2025, at the age of 34. Corey was a man of unwavering faith, compassion, and strength—leaving a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
From a young age, Corey dreamed of a career in law enforcement—a calling he pursued with purpose, integrity, and dedication. After graduating from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College with a degree in Computer Science, Corey began his first assignment with the University Police Department at the University of Southern Mississippi’s Long Beach campus, serving as a police officer—the very place where his law enforcement journey began. His devotion to public safety and leadership quickly became evident.
He later joined the Pass Christian City Police Department, where he rose through the ranks to become a Lieutenant—earning the respect and admiration of his fellow officers, colleagues, and the community he proudly served.
Corey’s dream came full circle when he accepted the position of Senior Training Coordinator at the Law Enforcement Training Academy at Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. There, he dedicated himself to training and mentoring the next generation of law enforcement officers—instilling in them the same discipline, compassion, and sense of duty that defined his own career.
Corey was a man of deep conviction, strong faith, and boundless compassion. He served not only as a protector but also as a mentor, especially through his work as a youth leader at the Hope Center. He shared his faith in God freely and lived a life of service that touched countless lives—both in and out of uniform.
He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of strength, kindness, and service will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
Corey was preceded in death by his mother, Margie Lynn Waldrop, and his grandparents, Margie “Buddy” Hodge and Ricky Waldrop. He is survived by his father, Adam (Wendy) Havelin; Vickey (Mickey) Wagner; Marsha (Robert) McGrew; Jim Hodge; Nola Waldrop; Wayne (Traci) Havelin; Wilmont (Tamie) Havelin; and Kristie (Tim) Heier; Jana Labat.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 17th at 10:00 a.m. at The Sanctuary, located at 1305 Ingalls Avenue, Pascagoula, MS 39567. Friends are invited to gather one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Police Benevolent Foundation (PBF) in Corey’s honor, supporting those who protect and serve. www.pbfi.org
