Robert H. Anderson, CW02 S/C S/S USN, Retired, 69, of Gulfport, MS left on patrol with God’s eternal submarine force. Mr. Anderson joined the Navy March 16, 1960 and received his commission to Chief Warrant Officer in 1980. His extensive naval career was served aboard the USS Ranger, The USS Lexington, The USS Shangrila, and abroad the submarines, The USS Nautilus, The Pollack, The USS Gatoaud and the last ship he served on, The USS Canopuswas. He was awarded The National Defense Medal, The Good Conduct Medal with 3 stars, The Navy Achievement Medal and The Expeditionary Medal – Cuba and Presidential Unit Accommodation. He retired from the Navy September 30, 1983 at Charleston, SC. After his retirement from the Navy he worked as a Food Service Project Manager at the C. B. Base in Gulfport, State Manager for Food Service, Inc. in North Carolina, Project Manager for the Air Force Base in Valdosta, GA and Chief Service Supervisor at Stennis Space Center. He also worked for the Grand Casino in Gulfport for 10 years and after Katrina he retired.
Mr. Anderson is preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Bender and her husband; a daughter, Cheryl Berry; a sister, Sandra Johnson; and a brother, Ralph Montolbo, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Gladys Anderson; two sons, Scott Anderson (Lisa) and Allan Berry, USN, Retired (Cindy) and grandchildren, Ashley Berry and Justin Tanner; a brother, Don Unterseher (Joyce); three sisters, Carol Weidner (Gerald), Debbie Sundheim (Joel) and Janet Kindsfater (Roger).
Graveside services will be on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery with full military honors.
