Cynthia Tangney Morgan, 78, of Vancleave, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026. She was born July 9, 1947, in Coushatta, Louisiana.
Cynthia devoted her life to caring for others through a long and respected career in nursing that spanned more than 45 years. She graduated from the LPN program at Jefferson Davis Junior College in 1966 and later returned to complete the Registered Nurse program in 1970.
She began her nursing career at Gulfport Memorial Hospital in Labor and Delivery before moving to Howard Memorial Hospital, where she worked in the Emergency Room. Throughout her career, Cynthia worked closely with the local ambulance service and later began teaching Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) classes at Jefferson Davis Junior College for several years. She also assisted in writing the grant that helped establish the Paramedic Program at Jefferson Davis Junior College. Cynthia later served as part of the RN On-Call program with Amserv Ambulance for many years. Eventually, she and her husband began travel nursing before she retired in 2018.
Outside of her career, Cynthia found joy in simple pleasures. She loved flowers and spent many happy hours tending to her yard and garden. She also enjoyed making jewelry for her friends and family. Above all else, Cynthia cherished her grandchildren, who brought her the greatest happiness.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin “Ron” Morgan; her children, Ronald P. Morgan (Kathy) and Lisa Chamberlain (Jake); her grandchildren, Stefanie Morgan, Samantha (Jeremy) McGowan, Isabelle Chamberlain, and Morgan Chamberlain; and her great-grandchildren, Cade McGowan, Connor McGowan, and Stetson Chamberlain.
She is also survived by her sister, Gwen Holden, and her nieces and nephews: Frank Simmons (Audie), Jake Simmons, and Julie Simmons.
The family would like to thank her caregivers, Jo Waltman, Larissa Boyce, and Tessie Godwin for the wonderful care she received over the past three years, and especially Maggie Boyce (1 year old), affectionately known as “Punky,” who kept a smile on her face every day.
A graveside service will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery underneath the pavilion on Monday, March 16, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate her life.
Cynthia will be remembered for her compassionate heart, her dedication to helping others, and the love she shared with her family and friends.
