Dale Greenwell, 91, of D’Iberville, MS passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 in Gulfport, MS. He was born on August 21, 1935 in D’Iberville, MS.
Dale graduated from D’Iberville High School in 1955 and later attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Anthropology and History. He served in the United States Army Security Agency in Intelligence, with assignments at US Embassies in Germany, Iran and Vietnam. Dale went on to have a fulfilling career as a renowned archeologist. He was a successful business owner, celebrated historian and author of 5 books including, “The Greatest America” and “Code: Team Zebra (Project7)”.
On July 4, 2015 he met his future wife Deborah. Together, they shared 11 years together filled with travel, adventures, family celebrations, events at the Biloxi Yacht Club and quiet evenings on the back porch with a glass of wine.
Dale was known for his archeological find of a pre-historic Native American Village on Deer Island. He also had a life-long passion for sailing and was a lifetime member of the Biloxi Yacht Club. Whether serving his country in uniform, on an archeological dig or authoring a novel, Dale was committed to excellence in whatever pursuits he undertook. Dale was a devoted husband, loving father and loyal friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Dale was preceded in death by his first wife, Francis; his daughter, Michelle; his parents, Tae and Cellan; his brother, Johnny; and his sister, Luana.
He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Greenwell; his sisters, Tanya and Marion; his brothers, Tim, Jon, Greg and Mike; his stepsons, Lee and his wife Amanda and Keith; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm with Masonic Rights at 7:00 pm followed by words of remembrance to celebrate Dale’s life on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 675 Howard Avenue, Biloxi, MS. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 177 E 1st Street, Biloxi, MS. Friends may visit from 10:00 am until mass time.
