Dale Curtman Wilkinson, affectionately known as “Pops,” age 82, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
Born on December 20, 1943, in Springfield, Illinois, Dale was the beloved son of Curtman Wilkinson and Jessie B. Wilkinson. A graduate of the University of Illinois, he proudly served his country as a U.S. Army Drill Sergeant before beginning his long career with the State of Illinois, Public Aid – DHS. Known for his wit and honesty, he often joked about achieving “PFO” status – Professional F Off*.
Pops was a man of adventure and passion. He lived life with an “all in” attitude, gathering friends and family for Harley rides, golf games, scuba diving trips, music, martial arts, and countless stories. He loved singing, dancing, playing guitar, and was an active member of organizations including the Elks Club, Lions Club, and American Legion. His signature call to action—“Rock N Roll!”—marked the start of many unforgettable adventures, bringing laughter, excitement, and sometimes a little worry to those around him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtman and Jessie B. Wilkinson; his former wife, Norma Wilkinson; and his brother, David Wilkinson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane Wilkinson; his son and daughter-in-law, Jake and Emmy Wilkinson; and his grandson, Alex Wilkinson. He also leaves behind his nephew, Ryan, and niece, Danielle, as well as extended family—Shyla and Tracy Hunt (stepdaughter and her husband), Chelsea and Meagan Hunt (step-granddaughters)—all of whom will carry his spirit forward.
A service with military honors will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Guests are asked to arrive early and follow the main road into the VA, continuing to the right and lining up on the boulevard, where the Funeral Director will lead the procession to the Pavilion. A remembrance gathering will follow to share stories, enjoy food and drink, and celebrate Pops’ remarkable life.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his care nurse, Keshia with Elite Care; the Ocean Springs Hospital staff; the team at Ocean Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center; and Hospice of Life for their kindness, dedication, and support throughout his final journey.
I love you, Pop. I love Honey. I love you, Grandpa. I love you, Dale. And we will all continue to love, explore, entertain, and Rock N Roll with a piece of him in our hearts.
