Dan Franklin Burrows

Dan F. Burrows passed peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2025, surrounded by the loving comfort of his family. Dan’s life of 93 years was a life well lived as evidenced by his sense of purpose, experiences, and the impact of his relationships as a father, grandfather, and friend. Born on April 10, 1932, in Kansas to Jay and Emma Belle Burrows, he was the youngest, with six siblings. From his early teen years, Dan wandered and wondered, spending summers traveling the country, working, and learning various trades and skills. He became a draftsman and spent his career at the Chevron Refinery in Pascagoula, MS. Ocean Springs, was his home for more than 65 years.

Dan was the calming center of our family, for his two daughters, Melanie (Martin) Seidman and Mimi (Todd) Massa, and for his blended family of Elizabeth (Richard) Beavers and Aimee (Brian) Risser, along with his five cherished grandchildren: Lennon Henry Beavers (Jenica), Marah Elizabeth Beavers, Ramey Paul Beavers, Brian Beckwith “Beck” Risser, and Isabella “Bella” Anne Louise Risser. Dan exemplified sincere care, love, and pride for his family. He was preceded in death by his son, Clark Burrows, Rebecca Stanley (his partner of 40 years), his parents, and each of his siblings, Dellmar, Jay Jr., Clifford, Harlan, Jean (Bishop), and Beulah (Lambert), Burrows.

It has been said, “What the hands do, the mind remembers.” Those who knew Dan embrace recollections of his ability to fix, tinker, draft, immaculately write, cook, and grow so many simple to remarkable things. Anyone driving down Washington Avenue recognized his home by the beautiful gardens he so proudly nurtured. His laid-back disposition, yet intense focus on details was experienced by anyone who played a game of darts with him. Dan’s grandkids affectionately recall being carried on his shoulders to Little Children’s Park, eating his pies, playing darts, sitting, and talking, and playing in his gardens all while feeling like they were the center of his attention.

Aside from the impact of his hands and heart, Dan loved riding his bicycle along the coast, even as far as Fairhope, AL. He was mindful of being active and healthy, and traveled with Rebecca, relishing history, architecture, and gardens.

Dan was firm and purposefully grounded in his values and beliefs yet delighted in listening to others. He thoroughly enjoyed talking with family and friends, whether while sipping wine at the yacht club or his other favorite places downtown, during his cherished morning coffee outings or while walking in the yard. His conversations covered a wide range of topics, from politics and history to gardening, as well as the everyday experiences of those close to him. His contemplative contributions to dialogue were always a source of wisdom, humor, and perspective.

The spirit of Dan lives in his children, grandchildren, and friends as we embrace the value of sincerity and kindness.

Dan’s memorial event will be on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 3:00 P.M, at 209 Washington Ave. All are welcome to join.
