Ocean Springs

Daniel “Danny” Dicks Guice, Jr., 73, passed away peacefully at his Ocean Springs home on Oct. 23rd, surrounded by family.

Danny was born in Biloxi in 1953 to Margaret and Daniel Guice, Sr. Danny graduated from Biloxi High School in 1960 before going on to Ole Miss with his high school sweetheart, Janie Bertrand.

After serving as a parole officer, bailiff and Justice of the Peace, Danny was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in 1983, where he served District 114 for six consecutive terms. In 2008 Danny accepted an appointment from Gov. Haley Barbour to the Mississippi Parole Board, where he served until 2012, retiring just in time for the birth of his first granddaughter.

Danny and Janie Guice were world travelers, having visited England, Poland, Spain, France, Scotland, Germany, Russia, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Greece, Switzerland, Ukraine, Turkey, New Zealand and Australia, across a total of 19 trips.

He was a daredevil, be it flying ride-a-long on an F-18, sky diving with his sons, white water rafting rivers from Canada to Costa Rica, or jumping overboard to ‘swim with the dolphins’ in shark infested Caribbean waters.

Danny loved the Gulf Coast, especially spending time with his parents at their Back Bay home. He would throw the cast net from their pier while Janie deheaded, filling their deep freezer with shrimp. Later in life he became an insatiable fisherman, with always one more spot to check.

He will be remembered as a joker, a bit of a rascal, quick with a wink and a smile. He always had the time to listen and a heart willing to help.

Danny goes on to join his parents, Margaret and Daniel Guice, Sr. at the big table.

His stories will be told by his wife, Janie, and two sons, Daniel and Nicholas, daughter-in-law, Kimberly, granddaughters, Roxy and Mazie, and his siblings, Carolyn and Barry.

In lieu of flowers, Danny asked that donations be made to The Parkinson's Foundation.

Private services will be held.

Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Homes is honored to serve the family of Daniel “Danny” Dicks Guice, Jr.
