Davis Mitchell Evans of Vancleave, MS passed away unexpectedly on his 17th birthday, Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
Davis was a Junior at St. Martin High School where he was active in the Marching and Symphonic Bands. He served on the leadership team as a Trumpet Section Leader. He was also a member of the H. O. P. E. Squad, and Student Council. He was voted “Most Spirited” student in his class multiple years. Davis was involved in the Student Ministry at First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs. He was a beloved part-time employee at The Crawfish House in Ocean Springs, where he amazed customers with his oyster grilling skills and entertained them with his outgoing personality. Everyone who knew him appreciated his infectious smile and laughter, unique sense of humor, caring spirit, and positive demeanor. Davis genuinely cared about the well-being of both friends and family and made sure to regularly check in on those he thought to be struggling. He was a friend to all he met and never met a stranger he couldn’t joke with. He loved basketball, especially the Lakers, and never let anyone forget #23 was the Greatest of All Time.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Rebekah Cox Evans; father, Shane Evans; brother, Riley Evans; grandparents, Mitch and Carole Cox (“Papa and Gidget”); uncle, James Cox (Robin), and cousin, Ellie; and numerous other relatives who loved him. He was preceded in death by his beloved uncle, Brenden Cox.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Ocean Springs on Saturday, May 9, at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at the church from 10am until service time, with ensembles from the band performing. Pallbearers will be Jaden Seymour, Wyatt Broadhead, Tristan Tyner, Kenny Gammaje, Landon Mattina, Oliver Madison. Honorary pallbearers will be the Concert and Symphonic Bands with the Color Guard of St. Martin High School.
The family wishes to thank the students, faculty, and administration of St. Martin High School, including Principal Shea Scarborough, Mark and Katlin Bell, as well as the local community for their outpouring of support during this tragically difficult time. We are humbled and grateful for the hundreds of donations received from a “Go Fund Me” fundraiser to assist the family with expenses.
Memorial donations may be made in Davis’ memory to the Student Ministry of First Baptist Church, Ocean Springs or to the St. Martin High School Band Boosters Club.
