Demetri Nick Vlahos

January 10, 1938 — March 18, 2026

D'Iberville, MS

Demetri Nick Vlahos, beloved brother and uncle, fell asleep in the Lord on March 18, 2026 in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Born on January 10, 1938 in Biloxi, Demetri was the cherished son of the late Stratigo and Nick Vlahos, and the loving brother of the late Mary Vlahos Kontos (and the late Chris Kontos).

He is survived by his devoted sisters, Katherine (Mike) Economos of Naperville, Illinois, and Photine Vlahos Hagicostas of Biloxi, Mississippi, and by his brother, Kosta (Kally) Vlahos of Biloxi now of Houston, Texas. He was a proud and adored uncle to his nine nieces and nephews —Joanne, Michael, Katherine, Nick, Olga, Pete, Nicholas, Stacey, and Anthony—and had a special place in his heart for his cousins John Koniditsiotis, Pete Cajoleas, and Alex Vlahos.

After graduating from Tulane University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, he proudly served in the United States Army. His professional path led him into the space industry, where he worked with Chrysler Michoud in New Orleans, General Electric in Arizona and California and later with NASA in Huntsville, AL.

Following the devastation of Hurricane Camille, which destroyed his family’s beloved Pastime Café, Demetri returned home to Biloxi. He continued his education at the University of Southern Mississippi, earning an MBA before beginning a 26-year career with Ingalls Shipyard, from which he ultimately retired.

A faithful member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Biloxi, Demetri served in numerous capacities throughout his life, guided by his unwavering Orthodox Christian faith. Deeply rooted in his community, he also dedicated time and energy to the Community Concert of the Gulf Coast, helping to strengthen the organization after Hurricane Katrina. And he faithfully supported and cheered for his beloved Tulane and New Orleans Saints.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his compassionate caregivers from Home Instead, especially Tonya Stubbs, for their care and support and Jordyn Daniel at Gentiva Hospice.

A visitation will be held on March 26, 2026 from 9:30 am - 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 255 Beauvoir Road Biloxi, MS, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 255 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, MS 39531.

May his memory be eternal.
