Denny Lee Ruiz, age 70, peacefully passed from this life to his heavenly home on Monday, November 18, 2024. Born in Houston, Texas, November 17, 1954, Denny passed one day after his 70th birthday.
Denny began his career in auto mechanics but transitioned to offshore work in the late 1980s, where he spent over 30 years of his career. He retired from offshore work, both reluctantly and happily, about four years ago. A proud lifelong resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, he loved and cherished spending time with his family and friends.
Denny is lovingly remembered and survived by his large and devoted family, including the love of his life, Lorraine “Lanny” Ruiz and his four sons, Jason (Madelon), Lee (Haley), Brian (Amanda), and Leonard “Josh” (Keghlea). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Tyler, Jonathan, Jerritt, Olivia, Trey, Isabel, Maddux, Noah, Scarlett, Líyo, Tinsley, Kennedy, Kori, and Stevie Jo; four brothers, Randy, Harvey, Stanley, and Peyton; and countless nieces, nephews, and family friends.
Denny was preceded in death by his son, Jerry; grandson, Bryce; parents, Ellen and Rander; brother, Edward; and mother- and father-in-law, Stella and Leonard Zielinski.
Known for his quick wit, contagious smile, and ability to brighten any room, Denny loved life and had a gift for making others laugh. He never missed an opportunity to make the most of any situation. In addition to delighting in driving Lanny crazy, he enjoyed old trucks, half cigars, keeping up with current events, outdoor activities, and creating lasting memories with family, friends and anyone who would listen. He was especially proud of having survived raising five rambunctious “Ruiz” boys, but nothing brought him greater joy than his 14 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport. Friends may visit one-hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Pine Ridge Gardens in Gulfport. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th street, Gulfport is honored to serve the Ruiz family.
