Diane Butler, 77, of Gautier, MS, loving wife, mother and aunt, went to be home with our Lord, on December 23, 2022 after a long and arduous battle with cancer. Born June 26, 1945 to Romer Vendeck and Victoria (Vic) Showah Price in Greenwood, MS. After attending Delta State University, Diane graduated from Blue Mountain College, where she was a member of the Eunomium Society and Vivace Club. She also completed Graduate courses at Auburn University

Following graduation, Diane moved to Natchez, where she taught at Montebello and Thomas Jefferson schools. While in Natchez, she served as Music and Youth Director for First Baptist Church Vidalia (LA) where she met the love of her life, Thomas Wayne (Tommy) Butler, her husband of 51 years.

They then relocated to the Gulf Coast, where Diane accepted a teaching position at East Central Elementary. Diane served as organist at Southside Baptist Church in Gautier. Diane continued her teaching career at Vancleave Elementary, before moving to Colmer Junior High and completing her teaching career at College Park Elementary, where she was the recipient of multiple International Paper Grants. A passionate educator, seeing her students succeed and serving as their advocate always gave her great joy. To that end, Diane also served Jackson County as a CASA worker.

An avid genealogist, Diane thrived on connecting with her family from around the world.

Diane is proceeded in death by her father, Romer Vendeck Price, mother, Victoria (Vic) Price, brother, Vendeck Price, and sister, Elaine Yelverton. She is survived by her husband, Tommy, daughter and son-in-law, Dr Stephanie and Bruce Stubbs, of Gulfport, sister and brother-in-law, Berniece and Harold Dillon, of Meadville, nieces and nephews, Jimmy Dale (Sarah) Butler of Plano, TX, Robby (Terry) Butler of Vidalia, LA, David Butler of Hohenwald, TN, Chris Butler of Hohenwald, TN, Col. Mike (Theresa) Davis of Huntsville, AL, Jennifer (Brian) Brennon of San Francisco, CA, Almeda (Matt) Miron of Chisago, MN, Allison (Jeff) Harbolt of Roswell, GA, John Yelverton of Jackson, MS , and Katie (Antonio) Melendez of Peoria, IL and several great nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held December 29, at 11:00 am at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola, MS with interment to follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Inverness, MS. Brother Nick Seymour will officiate. Pallbearers are Jimmy Dale Butler, Robby Butler, Col. Mike Davis, John Yelverton, Antonio Melendez and Jeff Harboldt. Honorary Pallbearers are Chris Taft, Jerry Shabel and David Erwin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to North Gautier Baptist Church or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
