Dixie Plummer Schankin, age 79, of Gulfport died Thursday, March 31, 2016 in Gulfport. She was born in Long Beach and was a resident of the Coast for most of her life. She was a member of Coalville United Methodist Church and attended Mississippi City United Methodist Church. She retired from Plummer Realty and was the former owner of Classic Collections in Gulfport. She enjoyed gardening and her grandchildren, loved the beach, and like traveling with her sister, Stella Paige.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nancy and Clinton Plummer; a son, Raymond Clinton Schankin; two sisters, Virginia Fayard and Evelyn Cunsolo; five brothers, C.M. Plummer, Bill Plummer, Herbert Plummer, Jimmy Plummer, Norris Plummer; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Mercer.
She is survived by two daughters, Julie Schankin Hobbs and Cathie Schankin Miller (Jeff); a son, Roy C. Schankin, Jr.; a sister, Stella Paige; seven grandchildren, Amanda Bryant (Matt), Brooke Simmons (John), Drew Schankin, Melissa Longfellow, Holly Schankin, Nicolas Miller, and Tyler Schankin; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral service is Sunday, April 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, O’Neal Road, Gulfport where friends may visit one hour before the service. Interment will follow at Woolmarket Cemetery.
