Dolan C. Fleming, former Harrison County Extension Service Agent, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023 at the age of 91.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Nanelle Fleming. He is survived by his daughter, Merri Lynne Booth (Jim); his grandson, Conner Booth; his brother, Dwight Fleming; his nephews, Ken Fleming, Les Fortenberry and Bill Fortenberry; and nieces Lisa Moore and Kim Story.
Dolan was a native of Philadelphia, MS and a resident of Gulfport since 1967. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Gulfport. He was a Deacon, Sunday School director and served in other leadership positions during the time he was a member of a Baptist church. He was a Gideon and belonged to the Orange Grove Gideon Camp and served as camp chaplain for several years.
Dolan was a graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in Agriculture Education. He retired from the Mississippi Cooperative Service after 31 years serving as the Harrison County Agent for 19 years and the Marion County 4-H Youth Agent for 12 years. He received the National Distinguished Service Award from the National County Agent’s Association. He was also the recipient of the National and State Public Information awards program. He was president of the Mississippi Association of County Agents in 1971 and past president of the Gulfport Noon Lions Club. He was a Korean War veteran.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 12, 2023 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15452 O’Neal Road, Gulfport, MS 39503. Burial will be at Biloxi National Cemetery with military honors by the US Army.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Mississippi State University Development Foundation, P.O. Box 6149, Mississippi State, MS 39762 or to the building fund, Faith Baptist Church, 8467 Canal Road, Gulfport, MS 39507. The family would like to thank the Gulfport Care Center for the loving care of him in his final days.
