Dolores Rita Skrnich Sonnier, 93 of D'Iberville, MS, passed peacefully into God's arms on Monday, January 12, 2026 in Ocean Springs, MS.
Born September 22, 1932, in Biloxi, Mississippi, to John and Antonia (Kuljis) Skrnich, Dolores married her beloved husband, George, in 1950. They shared 71 years of marriage, building a family grounded in love, faith, and devotion to one another.
A dedicated homemaker, she poured her life into nurturing her family, leaving a legacy of love, faith and selfless devotion. She was her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader, rarely missing a milestone and took great joy in supporting them in all they pursued.
A devout Catholic, Dolores was a woman of strong faith and held a great devotion to our Blessed Mother, praying the rosary faithfully, entrusting her family and the world to Mary’s intercession. She was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, John & Antonia; her brothers, Thomas, Joseph, John, Michael, Samuel; her sisters, Clara, Margaret, Frances, and Lucretia; and several beloved nieces and nephews, especially Patsy Kuluz who provided much love and support over the years.
She is survived by her cherished daughters, Georgia Ann (Danny) Elliott, Janet (Mike) Fayard, Cyndee (Kenny) Kozlowski and Deanna (Bobby) Weaver; 11 grandchildren along with their spouses, 17 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews, all of whom were the joy of her life and the focus of her prayers.
She is now reunited with her beloved husband, parents and nine of her siblings, and will continue to watch over her family always.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her honor.
The family would like to express their deepest and most heartfelt appreciation to their dear friend and extended family member Suzi Burdine for all of her constant love and support. Special thanks to her niece, Carolyn Mason Murphy for the many visits and faithful companionship throughout the years. They would also like to thank Ocean Springs Hospital Staff, Deaconess HomeCare, Dr. Jatinder Singh and Dolores’s long-time compassionate physician, Dr. Paul Pavlov. The family would also like to thank Fr. Dominic Pham for his prayerful support of Dolores and her family during this most difficult time.
