Doris Waites Robinson, 89, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS with her son, Bobby Waites and his wife Gay at her bedside. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Waites Johnson and granddaughter Shelley Johnson. She leaves behind four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a son-in-law.
Ms. Robinson was born in Jones County, MS to Jesse and Ruby Gordon on January 29, 1928. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Junior. This freckled-face redhead graduated Valedictorian from Calhoun High School in Jones County. In the mid 1950’s she and her family moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast where her career included serving as Deputy Clerk for the City of Gulfport and then Personnel Director for the city until her retirement. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Doris’s bright mind and efficient work ethic led to a successful career, but her family was always her priority. Her son affectionately recalls as a youngster the many times his mother would pitch and catch baseballs with him in the backyard. She never missed his ballgames and was always there for her family.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 1726 15th Street, Gulfport with the service at noon. A graveside will be at Calhoun Cemetery in Jones County at 3:30 pm on Wednesday
