Dr. Robert S. Holgate, age 77, of Biloxi, MS, slipped away Thursday, May 22, 2014, in Biloxi.
Dr. Holgate was born April 30, 1937, in Bronxville, NY, to the late Fred B. and Mary Margaret Holgate. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Holgate. He had been a resident of the MS Gulf Coast since 1992.
He earned his under graduate degree from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, a DDS Degree from the University of New York in Buffalo, NY, and a Master of Science Degree from the University of Texas in Houston, TX.
Dr. Holgate is a Retired U. S. Air Force Colonel with 30 years of service. During his tenure in the military he was stationed throughout the United States and internationally. While in the military he received many awards and commendations including the Meritorious Service Award and the Legion of Merritt with Oak Leaf Clusters.
He was an active member of Sunkist Country Club where he enjoyed golf and is now rejoined with his "golf buddies". He participated in other social activities and tournaments while there. As a volunteer at the 81st Medical Center Pharmacy he contributed many hours to the welfare of patients and physicians.
Dr. Holgate is survived by his wife of 43 years, Beverly Holgate; his brother-in-law, Edward C. Dettling; his sister-in-law, Margaret Holgate; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A heartfelt thanks is extended to Jane and Steve Deitz, Father Ryan, Wally Cox, Rose Alexander, the Oncology and Surgical Departments at Keesler AFB Medical Center, and Camellia Hospice for the compassionate and diligent care they provided throughout Bob's illness. Special thanks to Louise, Sharon and Pauline who have supported me during my time of need.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m.Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 2511 Pass Road, in Biloxi where friends may visit one hour before service time. The eulogy will be given by Dr. William "Robert" English of Cadiz, KY. Interment will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery with military honors.
