Drew Cameron, age 70, of Long Beach, slipped away peacefully to see his Savior in heaven on Friday, June 2, 2023 surrounded by his family. Drew was a loving husband, dad, granddad and friend. Living on the coast his entire life, he amazed his family with how many people he knew. His family, friends, Sunday School class, Wednesday Night Men’s Group, and 25+ year old supper club members meant the world to him.
Drew was born on June 15, 1952 at Keesler in Biloxi. He graduated from Gulfport High and William Carey University with a business degree. He worked for Mississippi Power until 1991 when he started his own business, Coastal Lawn Service. All three sons were taught a strong work ethic of being dependable and always doing their best while working for their dad. Drew continued growing that business until 2019 when he retired and his son, Scott, took over.
Drew was a deacon of First Baptist Church of Gulfport, Grace Memorial Baptist Church Gulfport, and First Baptist Church Long Beach. He was a faithful choir member until he lost his vision due to cancer treatments two years ago. He loved being on the water in his cabin cruiser, camping in the RV across the United States, and traveling across Europe overland or on river cruises.
Drew was preceded in death by his parents, Scotty Cameron and Aileen Cameron.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Simmons Cameron; three sons Brent (Cindy) and Scott (Lindsey), all of Gulfport and Derek (Amy) of Birmingham, AL. He loved his grandchildren, Micah, Nathan, Emma, and Peyton.
The family would like to thank the staff of MD Anderson Hospital (Houston), Memorial Hospital Gulfport, and Canon Hospice Center Gulfport.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Long Beach on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is honored to serve the Cameron family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to FBC Long Beach Youth Fund or MS Baptist Disaster Relief Fund, both at 300 N. Cleveland Avenue, Long Beach, MS 39560.
