Loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. Duc Van Nguyen, 88 of Biloxi, MS, passed away in Pflugerville, TX on Friday, May 3, 2024.
He was born in Hai Phòng Vietnam in 1936 to Chanh Văn Nguyễn and Thác Thị Nguyễn.
At 17, Đức was in charge of helping the families when his father was imprisoned for 14 years after the French left Vietnam. In 1980, after his mother passed away, he wanted to escape from North Vietnam communism for a better future for his family. He took his family and relatives to Hồng Kông in 1980. Duc’s Aunt Phen Thị Nguyễn and her family sponsored the whole family to America in 1981.
SPOUSE – Đức and Xim parents arranged their meeting in 1957. In 1958 Duc and Xim Thi Nguyen got married in Hai Phong, Vietnam. They truly loved each other and celebrated 65 years together. They cared for each other until their golden years. Duc always called his wife Bà ơi. Even when he was very sick, he would wake up and call out “Ba ơi, Bà ơi”. They were married for 66 years until Duc’s passing.
Duc and Xim have a big family with seven children, son-Hanh, son-Nguyên, daughter-Sara Nguyệt, (fav.) daughter-Christine Ngoãn, daughter-Hà, son-Công and son-Thành Nguyễn.
GRANDCHILDREN – Duc was a grandfather to Paul, Dana, Jamie, Alex, Andrew, Brian, Lilly, Austin, Christian, Cayden, Devin, Camden, Charlotte, Ivy, Tyson and Bella.
Duc was an accountant for his village in Vietnam. He was also a passionate fisherman, fishing in Hai Phong, Đảo Hải Nam and the South China Sea in Vietnam. After coming to America, he continued to fish in Biloxi, MS where he fished off the Gulf of Mexico catching shrimp, oyster, and fish.
Duc was an active member of the Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church in Biloxi, MS, devoting his time and energy to spreading the word of the Lord.
Duc will always be remembered for his kindness, playfulness, curiosity, and the way that he loved his family. We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, father, grandparent and sibling We will miss Duc every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Duc Nguyễn was preceded in death by his brother, Nhật Văn Nguyễn, brother Tính Văn Nguyễn, sister Tâm Thị Nguyen, brother Lâm Văn Nguyen and is survived by sister Chua Thị Nguyễn -VN, sister Chát Thị Nguyễn -VN, sister Thanh Thị Nguyễn -VN and Ngoan Thị Nguyễn -VA.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, Thursday, May 9, 2024 and Friday, May 10, 2024 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Avenue in Biloxi followed by Mass at Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church each day at 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery.
