Lt. Col. Fabian Val Husley, Sr., USAF Ret, age 95, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2014.
In 1940, Fabian was inducted in to the U.S. Army’s 31st Infantry “Dixie Division” after prior service as a non-commissioned officer, rising to the rank of regimental sergeant major, in the 155th Infantry, Mississippi National Guard. Following officer candidate school, he moved with the division to the Pacific Theater and participated in five campaigns: Finschoofen, Dutch New Philippines; Morotai, Netherlands East Indies; Sarmi-Wakade Island, New Guinea; Leyte Island, Philippines; and Mindinao, Philippines. He received two Bronze Stars with oak leaf clusters, four Battle Stars and attained the rank of major on the division staff. Following WWII, he transferred to the Air Force and as a Lt. Col. commanded the 3380th Supply Squadron at Keesler AFB during the Korean conflict. Remaining in the Reserves, his civilian work included various leadership posts in supply at the Gulfport VA, Gulfport Navy Base and Keesler AFB before his retirement.
Fabian was very active in church work, establishing the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and serving as a Eucharistic minister for over 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fabian and Elizabeth (Kantzell) Husley; and his wife of 67 years, Evelyn.
Survivors include his son, Dr. F. Val and his wife, Shannon (McDonnell) Husley; two grandsons, Louis of Biloxi and Daniel, of Weston, FL; and a great-granddaughter, Danielle of Boston, MA.
A private family service was held at Southern Memorial Park on June 6, 2014. Memorials in his honor may be sent to the Our Lady of Fatima Parish, St. Vincent de Paul Society. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
