Father Martin J. Gillespie

Martin Gillespie, 68 of Biloxi, MS passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

He was born on January 15, 1958 in Elwood, IN to Louis and Margaret Gillespie. He graduated from Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, LA. Martin attained a graduate degree from the School of Theology and was a pastor a St. Mary Catholic Church in Biloxi, MS. He served five years in the Air National Guard. He enjoyed golf, scuba diving, and collecting firearms.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Margaret Gillespie; and his brother, Brian Gillespie.

He is survived by his siblings, Tim Gillespie, Eric Gillespie Sr (Beth), Rhonda Gillespie and Marc Gillespie; nephew, Eric Gillespie Jr (Ophelia) and their sons, Owen and William; nephew, Mike Gillespie; niece, Lauren Gillespie and her son, Kyler Gillespie; nephew, Randal Gillespie (Mel) and their sons, Sam and Jack; niece, Kristen Gillespie and her daughters, Dustie and Brexlyn; sister-in-law, Julie Gillespie and her son, Brian Gillespie; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations sent to St. Mary Catholic Church.

The family would like to thank Vicar General Adam Urbaniak, St. Mary Catholic Church, Biloxi Diocese, and Knights of Columbus.

A visitation will be held from 4 pm to 6 pm on Monday, September 14, 2026 at St. Mary Catholic Church. A Rosary Vigil will follow at 6 pm. On Tuesday, September 15, 2026 a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am at St. Mary Catholic Church. Friends are invited to visit one hour prior. Interment will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery.

The reception for Father Gillespie will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Center 870 Nativity Drive, Biloxi, MS 39530.
