George G. Garbin

George G. Garbin, 89, of D’Iberville, passed away Friday, September 4, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

George was born in Biloxi, MS on November 17, 1936 to Grugur and Danica (Pavlov) Garbin. He attended St. Michael Elementary School, graduated from Notre Dame High School and earned an associate degree in science from St. Bernard’s College in Cullman, AL.

George was twice called to serve in the U.S. Army. After returning home, he worked in several positions before joining American National, where he remained until his retirement in 1998.

George enjoyed sports, especially playing softball and ping pong. He also enjoyed coaching girls’ softball, including teams that included his three daughters.

After retirement, George devoted more time to one of his greatest passions: cabinetmaking and woodworking. He was known for his beautiful craftsmanship and the care he put into every project.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grugur and Danica (Pavlov) Garbin; and his siblings, Peter (DeeDee) Garbin, Frank G. (Nitza) Garbin, Madelyn (Earl) Carpenter and Joseph (Dale) Garbin.

George is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Lora Lee (Santa Cruz) Garbin; his children, Dina Garbin, Shelly Frenzel, Gerilyn (Jay) Moilanen, Johnny (Candice) Poulos, Tammy (Travis) Cuevas, Kelly (Danny) Poulos and Kevin (Rachel) Poulos; his grandchildren, Lauren (Chris) Broussard, Torri (Denver) Bankston, Alyssa Garbin, Christopher and Cameron Frenzel, Stephanie (Micah) Ridgdell, Ashlee (Josh) Griffin, Jason Poulos, Justin (Hailey) Poulos, Chelsea (Tyler) Hammond, Hanna (Geno) Martin and Kyndal Poulos; and his great-grandchildren, Haven and Hazel Broussard, Nash Bankston, Emelia and Emersyn Griffin, Oakleigh and Ramsey Ridgdell and Ridge Poulos.

George will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to many.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 14, 2026 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Avenue in Biloxi from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Lemoyne Boulevard in D’Iberville at 11:00 am. Friends may visit from 10:00 am until mass time. Interment will follow at Santa Cruz Cemetery on Highway 15 in Saucier, MS. A reception will be held at Divine Mercy Hall, located behind Sacred Heart Church on Lemoyne Boulevard in D’Iberville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. Vincent de Paul Society.

The family extends special thanks to all who came to visit George, as well as to SAAD Healthcare for their care and support.
