Gerald Eugene Calvert, 86, of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away on April 1, 2026.
He was born on October 4, 1939, in Cullman, Alabama, to Ernest and Opal Calvert.
Gerald proudly served his country in the United States Army, entering on October 1, 1961, as a medical specialist with the 128th Medical Company, 428th Medical Battalion, and achieved the rank of Specialist E-4. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army on July 31, 1965. In recognition of his service, he was awarded the National Emergency Service Medal by the Governor of Alabama on August 1, 1962.
Prior to his military service, Gerald worked as a shipping clerk at Scott Paper Company in Mobile, Alabama. After leaving the Army, he dedicated over 40 years of service to International Paper Company in Pascagoula, Mississippi, where he worked as a foreman in the lab. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and pride in providing for his family.
A devoted husband, Gerald shared over 30 loving years with his wife, Sandra Calvert. His deep love for her was evident throughout his life, and he passed just one year after her death. He was a family man with a strong sense of devotion, always cherishing time spent with his loved ones. He especially enjoyed sharing stories about his brothers and sisters, whom he loved dearly.
He is survived by his children, Melissa Williams (Andrew), Jerry Calvert (Kim), Michelle Hall, and Ronnie Calvert; stepdaughter Amy Williams (Doug); as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra Calvert; his parents, Ernest and Opal Calvert; and his son, Ricky Moore.
Gerald had a passion for University of Alabama football and was a devoted fan. He also enjoyed simple pleasures, including his favorite oatmeal cream pies. He was especially proud of his Alabama quilt, lovingly made for him by his wife, which he cherished deeply.
He will be honored with a Patriotic Guard procession in recognition of his military service.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jonathan Tindol and Jeremiah Tindol; son-in-law Andrew Williams and James Thompson.
Melissa and Andrew would like to thank Saad’s Hospice staff, Dr. Andrew Peterson, and his dedicated caregivers—Jocelyn, Brittany, Courtney, and Tippie—for their compassion and care, which allowed him to remain at home in his final years.
Gerald lived a life defined by quiet strength, warmth, and a deep devotion to his family. The love he gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM for family and friends at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Avenue in Biloxi, Mississippi. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery
