Gladys Rivera Acevedo

August 31, 1950 — August 25, 2025

Ocean Springs

On the evening of Monday, August 25, 2025, our beloved mother, Gladys Mercedes Rivera Chevrez Acevedo, passed peacefully in her sleep at her home in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. She was 74 years old.

Born on August 31, 1950, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, Gladys was the cherished daughter of Ramon Rivera and Maria Antonia Chevrez Rivera. Her journey took her from the vibrant streets of Brooklyn, New York—where she graduated from William H. Maxwell High School as a licensed cosmetician—to a life filled with love, family, and purpose. She proudly owned her own hair salon, bringing beauty and confidence to others with her skilled hands and warm heart.

In 1972, she married the love of her life, Luis Acevedo, and together they built a home filled with laughter, devotion, and unwavering support. Gladys was the proud mother of Erika Scicutella, Ramon Acevedo, Jeremy Acevedo, Michael Scicutella, Jennifer Acevedo, and Tracy Acevedo. She was also a loving sister to Mary Pineiro and a doting grandmother to Michael Scicutella, Ramon Acevedo, Matthew Acevedo, Jacob Acevedo, Shelbie Acevedo, Zoe Acevedo, and Jeremy Acevedo.

Gladys’s greatest joy came from nurturing others. She chose to become a homemaker, dedicating her life to raising her children and caring for anyone in need. Her home was a sanctuary of love, and her heart was always open—especially to children, whom she adored. Her grandchildren were her world, and she poured endless affection into every moment spent with them.

She had a passion for travel, especially to the Caribbean, and found great joy in sharing the magic of Sandals and Beaches Resorts with others. Whether she was planning a family vacation or helping someone discover their dream getaway, Gladys brought warmth and excitement to every journey.

Her love was boundless. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, and friend anyone could ask for—a light in our lives who now shines as a star in the heavens.

To us, she was everything.

A wife whose love was our anchor.

A mother whose wisdom was our compass.

A grandmother whose hugs could fix anything.

Though our hearts are heavy, we are filled with gratitude for the time we shared and the love we received. Her spirit lives on in every sunrise and sunset, every act of kindness, and every family gathering. She will forever be the heartbeat of our family.

We thank you for your prayers and support as we honor the life of a woman who gave so much and asked for so little. Gladys’s legacy is love—and that love will never fade.
