Ms. Gladys Baxter Schmidt, 80, died on February 27, 2017, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Ms. Schmidt was born in Zachary, Louisiana, and had been a long-time resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert J Schmidt, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baxter, of Zachary, Louisiana, and her sister Jean Rhodus of Zachary, Louisiana.
She is survived by her son, Robert J. “Robbie” Schmidt Jr. and wife Jennifer of Biloxi, and daughter, Margaret Schmidt Davis and husband Craig of Lafayette, Louisiana; five grandchildren, James Davis (Lauren), Joe Davis, Jarred Davis, Miia Newman and Molly Schmidt; two brothers, Mr. Henry Baxter, Jr. (Carolyn) of Zachary, Louisiana and David Kirk Baxter (Glenda) of Alice, Texas; and a sister, Mary Hammatt of Oakdale, Louisiana, and many nieces and nephews.
Gladys was a graduate of Zachary High School, Zachary, Louisiana, she received her BS degree from Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, Louisiana. She also received a degree from the Charity Hospital School of Anesthesia and attended Louisiana State University. She served as the office manager of the Schmidt Clinic in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Ms. Schmidt lived in Biloxi since 1968 and was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral and a past member of the Dogwood Garden Club. She was a volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy and was a longtime member of the Biloxi Yacht Club of which she was President of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a supporter of the Maritime & Seafood Museum and belonged to the Order of Les Masquees Carnival Association. She was queen of the Order of Mithras Carnival Association in 1980. In 2012 she was awarded Outstanding Volunteer of the Year in the Health Care Industry for the City of Biloxi. She enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 4th, 2017 at Nativity B.V.M. Cathedral at 12 p.m. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Interment will follow service at Evergreen Cemetery in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
